 Key Purpose of the Role:

The successful candidate Contribute to the design, implementation, enhancement and growth of Magnet (Ireland) and Velocity 1 (UK) network infrastructure. The roll encompasses all areas of network design ranging from the high level design to the low level design and physical implementation of the solutions.Provide mentoring and technical support of the Magnet/Velocity NOC teamMagnet operates a varied mix of Service technologies and vendors including

  • ADSL2+
  • SHDSL
  • Metro Ethernet
  • FTTO
  • Layer 2 (LACP/STP)
  • MPLS VPN’s
  • BGP Peering
  • CWDM/DWDM

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Develop scalable network designs and solutions to support our ongoing network enhancement projects and also our customer’s needs.
  • Identify, research, evaluate and recommend network related tools and emerging network technologies
  • Support other internals groups at Magnet by identifying their requirements and providing adequate solutions
  • Generate project documentation describing the network design and implementation
  • Participate in rotating “on call” schedules with other members of the team providing third-tier support to the 24 hour NOC
  • Help junior members on the team and other groups on the engineering organization to develop their skills

Person Specification:

 

Essential Skills & Experience (key competencies)

 

Experience

  • Experience of  design and operation of medium/large scale networks, ideally service providers
  • Experience on reproducing and troubleshooting complex network problems in both in lab and production environments.
  • Extensive hands on experience on Cisco networking equipment (Routers, Switches, Remote Access Servers, PIX Firewalls…) ideally in a telecom environment or a significant large scale IT infrastructure environment
  • Experience coding in common scripting languages such as shell scripting & perl
  • Experience in evaluation of new network technologies
  • Productions and maintenance of documentation of solutions and network upgrades

 

Skills

  • Network Certification or Equivalent Proven Experience

–    CCNP –  Essential

–    CCIP or similar a distinct advantage

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Creative problem solving abilities
  • Extensive operational experience with carrier-class routers and switches
  • Extensive routing protocol troubleshooting skills (BGP, OSPF, MPLS)
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, PPPoE, GRE, HSRP, LACP, RADIUS, SNMP, DHCP and other common protocols and standards
  • Deep understanding of Ethernet, SONET/SDH, and DWDM/CWDM technologies
  • Knowledge of common scripting/programming languages like PHP, Perl, Bash, C
  • In-depth knowledge of network monitoring and other administrative tools
