Dublin-based software company Spanish Point offers business solutions built around the Microsoft platform for SMEs, the financial services sector and the Government sector. Broadband connectivity and quality communications is crucial to the business.
When Spanish Point was moving premises, it saw the opportunity to upgrade its IT infrastructure including its voice and internet communications systems.
It needed to maintain high broadband speeds capable of uploading large, complex files, and had to maintain communications requirements between its Dublin head offices and two off-shore software development centres in Eastern Europe.
Its aim was to combine its phone and internet connectivity, while maintaining fast and powerful broadband speeds. Cost effectiveness and easy access for teleworkers was also a consideration.
Magnet Business provides an integrated phone and data communications solution called VoiceNet, which is offered both as a fully managed or onsite solution. Spanish Point opted for the fully managed service, which offers a top of the range phone system managed offsite by Magnet. As well as enabling significant savings to the tune of €4,000, there was the benefit of no upfront costs. The whole service, including broadband, minutes and the phone system, is available for a fixed monthly fee.
While management and IT staff benefited from affordable, powerful and fast broadband, all staff responded positively to the new phone system. Spanish Point Donal Cullen says. “The overall functionality of the handsets is fantastic and we can even allocate phones to people who are out of the office. Users can be added easily and can take their numbers with them to a home office or almost anywhere in the world,” he continues. “This is perfect for our remote workers in our offshore development centres – they just simply plug a soft phone into a laptop and calls can be made as if sitting at your office desk.”
Magnet in Action
Unlike other IP Telephony services, Magnet’s is provided over its own private network meaning call quality never becomes an issue. The perceived disruption of moving provider and changing systems can often prevent companies from switching providers. However for Spanish Point this wasn’t an issue. Donal Cullen, CEO, maintains that there “really wasn’t an installation process. The day we moved in, Magnet had an engineer come out, plugged in the router, and we plugged in the phones. It was simpler than setting up a wireless network at home.”
As the company expanded, it was able to scale up its telecoms needs without the need for an onsite engineer to install any new lines. Magnet supplied Spanish Point with new handsets that they merely needed to plug in.
