About Magnet

Established in 2004 Magnet is leading provider of broadband, telephony, VoIP, Wi-Fi, hosting and other cloud solutions to both businesses and consumers. Headquartered in Clonshaugh in Dublin and with a  regional office in Galway, Magnet became the first internet service provider to offer a 1Gb internet service fibre to the home. Magnet was also the first telecoms provider in Ireland to launch a cloud telephony solution which allows users to take and make landline calls on regular handsets, PCs, an online portal and a mobile app.

Magnet owns and runs its own network thus it is able to give its customers their own dedicated line that they don’t share with anyone else and lets them experience the backing of our top quality, dedicated customer care team. Our next generation service is delivered through our extensive fibre optic and copper access network. In Ireland we currently service thousands of business and residential customers and are also the largest provider of fibre to the home in the country.

Magnet has to date invested over €120 million in creating the most advanced telecoms network in the country. With its ownership of transatlantic submarine fibre cables, through its parent CVC, its investment in fibre connectivity to and in Ireland directly influences the decisions of big data corporations to directly invest in Ireland.

Taking Irish Business to the Cloud & Winning Awards Along the Way
Magnet are on a mission to take Irish business to the cloud. With innovative solution such as Office-in-a-Box and Magnet Voice alongside conducting one of the largest pieces of SME research in Ireland annually, the Regional Business Barometer, this ambition is well underway. Magnet’s trophy cabinet is stocking up with awards such as the Best Provider of Cloud Services to SMEs as voted by the Irish Internet Association, being listed in Business & Finance Tech 100 and consistently remaining number one on the Netflix Irish ISP Speed Index.

Velocity1: Enabling a Smart City in London
Magnet acquired London based broadband provider: Velocity1 in 2012. Velocity1 provides fibre optic broadband to Wembley Park and Greater West London enabling a smart city initiative for both residential and commercial properties.

Aertv: Pioneer of Online TV in Ireland
Before Netflix and TV streaming was the norm that it is today Aertv emerged offering Irish users, for the first time, the ability to stream live TV over the internet. As a champion for convenient TV streaming Aertv features more than 20 TV channels which can be watched on laptops, tablets and mobiles through the app.

Close Relationship with Columbia Ventures Corporation
Magnet Networks is owned by Columbia Ventures Corporation (CVC), which itself is owned by Irish-American entrepreneur Ken Peterson, Jr. The CVC companies include Hibernia Atlantic, who own the only transatlantic fibre optic cable directly connecting the Republic of Ireland to North America. Hibernia also built and operates the Project Kelvin fibre optic cable ring around Northern Ireland, connecting to the Republic and directly to North America. Other sister companies, PocketiNet and Pac-West Telecom handle a billion minutes of monthly phone calls in the United States along with Pivotel, a mobile and satellite phone company in Australia.
